Clinical Consultant & Strategic Advisor
Helping organisations navigate the psychological complexity of weight management in the GLP-1 era.
Emma Murphy is an esteemed Psychotherapist with over 17 years of specialisation in disordered eating, and a member of the Irish Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy. Having worked in private practice for over 15 years, Emma has developed a deep understanding of the complexities involved in emotional eating and binge eating disorders (BED).
Her extensive experience of working with individuals and groups across the entire spectrum of disordered eating led to the development of the Eating Freely™ Program, a structured, trauma-informed model of working with adults experiencing emotional eating and binge eating disorder.
In response to the rapidly evolving landscape of weight management, Emma has become a leading voice in the call for ethical, person-centred care. Recognizing the widespread use of GLP-1 medications and the profound psychological gap in support for patients, she has developed a pioneering approach to ethical weight management that addresses the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being of clients.
Emma is driven by a mission to increase awareness and understanding of the role of trauma in emotional eating and binge eating disorder, particularly among healthcare professionals and the public. Her advocacy is fuelled by the significant prevalence of emotional eating and binge eating in higher weight healthcare, where psychological supports are rare.
Emma and her dedicated team of health professional qualified trainers have trained over 3000 health professionals both in person and online through the evidence-based Eating Freely Program. This initiative has created a robust network of Eating Freely practitioners in over 10 countries, all equipped to provide ethical and effective support in the complex field of weight management. All Eating Freely training programs are internationally approved continuing education programs.
